The default setting for any entrepreneur is “more.” More clients, more revenue, more growth. But without a destination, “more” is just a hamster wheel. It’s the fast track to burnout because the finish line is always moving.
The most radical act of self-nurturing you can do in your business is to define your “enough” point.
“Enough” is not a sign of settling. It’s a declaration of clarity. It’s the conscious decision to build a business that serves your life, not a life that serves your business.
What does “enough” look like for you?
- Financial Enough: What is the specific monthly revenue that covers your personal and business expenses, allows for savings, and lets you live comfortably? It’s not a fantasy number; it’s your real number.
- Time Enough: How many hours a week do you truly want to work? How many clients can you serve with excellence without sacrificing your well-being?
- Energy Enough: What kind of work leaves you energized versus drained? “Enough” means focusing on the former.
When you know your “enough” point, you can make decisions from a place of power, not panic. You can say “no” to opportunities that don’t align, knowing that you already have what you need. You can design your business around your ideal life, not the other way around.
Actionable Nurturing Step: Take 15 minutes to calculate your financial “enough” number. What is the actual income you need to live the life you envisioned on Day 1? Be honest and specific.

My definition of success as a mom who ran a thriving manufacturing business was being there when my kid got on and off the school bus. That was always priority #1.
I just did that and my financial “enough” is less than I thought. But I have been overworking and I think I am heading for burnout. I may need to take a step back.
