Finding Your Business Sweet Spot: The Formula for Joyful Profit

Not all work is created equal. Some tasks light you up, and others feel like you’re dragging a bag of rocks uphill. A nurtured business is intentionally designed to have more of the first and less of the second.

The key is to find and operate within your business sweet spot.

This isn’t a mythical place; it’s a strategic framework. It’s the intersection of three critical things:

  1. What You Love Doing (Your Passion): What parts of your work would you do for free? What topics do you nerd out on? This is the fuel.
  2. What You’re a Genius At (Your Skill): What do people consistently praise you for? What results do you get for clients effortlessly? This is your unique magic.
  3. What People Will Pay For (Your Market): What is a pressing pain point in the market that your genius can solve? This is what makes it a business, not a hobby.

Your business sweet spot is right in the middle of that Venn diagram. When you’re working there, it doesn’t feel like work. You have endless energy, achieve incredible results, and are well compensated for it.

Anything outside of this sweet spot is a candidate for delegation, automation, or deletion. Your job as the CEO of your business is to spend as much time as possible in this zone of joyful profit.

Actionable Nurturing Step: Draw the three circles. In the “Passion” circle, list 5 work tasks you love. In the “Skill” circle, list 5 things you’re exceptionally good at. Where is the overlap?

  1. This is so Timely!
Last night our Wellness Community had a meeting that included both visioning a ‘guide’ / avatar for our businesses, and a little presentation – I’ll share your post with the community!

  2. I just finished reading The Big Leap and love the idea of working in my Zone of Genius, the same as your Business Sweet Spot, it really doesn’t feel like work :).

  3. I love this advice. I’m very clear on the first two, but I have a ton of ideas for the third and never seem to know when to stop creating things that people might want or need. More than likely, the best thing to do is pick one and stick with it, which is what I am trying to do right now.
