How to Log Off from the Comparison Game

You know the feeling. You’re having a perfectly good day, feeling proud of your progress. Then you open Instagram. You see someone else’s perfectly curated launch, their shiny testimonials, their massive follower count. Suddenly, your good day evaporates, replaced by a wave of self-doubt.

Welcome to “comparison-itis.” It is the thief of joy and the killer of momentum.

In the world of online business, you are always seeing someone else’s highlight reel. You’re comparing your behind-the-scenes mess to their perfectly edited final cut. It’s a game you can never win, because it’s not a fair fight.

A nurtured business requires you to put on your blinders. It demands that you stop looking left and right and focus on your own lane. Your journey, your pace, your definition of success are the only things that matter.

How to break the cycle:

  • Curate Your Feed: Mute or unfollow any account that consistently makes you feel bad about yourself. Your social media should be a place of inspiration, not intimidation.
  • Remember the Full Picture: When you see a “win,” remind yourself of the years of hard work, failure, and unseen struggle that likely went into it.
  • Track Your Own Progress: Keep a journal of how far YOU have come. Celebrate your own wins – remember your HYPE File. The only person you should be comparing yourself to is the person you were yesterday.

Your unique path is your power. Don’t let someone else’s curated success distract you from your own beautiful, messy, and totally valid journey.

Actionable Nurturing Step: Go on a “muting” spree. Open your favorite social media app. Scroll through your feed. Mute at least three accounts that trigger your comparison-itis. Notice the peace that follows.

  1. Uhg!!! The comparison trap is so real. I’ve found myself in it recently while really confronting my own abilities (and struggles) due to my chronic fatigue! It helps to remember I am building my own life and business to support myself and my unique needs – not someone else’s!

  2. This is such a good reminder–one we need to hear often! Nothing dampens your own goals and inspirations than to see someone else online having better success,or doing something that you want to do.
